The first village “uplifted” in the Uplift a Village program is Kinawa Aidah, in Kyengera, Uganda. Poverty is high, literacy is low, employment prospects are few, and vocational training is scarce. All of the sub-projects have been well-received. They are aimed at raising the capacity of the local people to better themselves.

Water project

We installed a 1,000-liter water storage tank. This is for water harvesting to serve the school’s need for drinking water, water for washing, and water for the school’s garden.

Ovens

We installed two commercial ovens, allowing the vocational center to both train students in baking skills, and provide nutritious baked goods to help feed the students.

Sewing machines

We purchased four commercial sewing machines to train seamstresses at the school’s vocational center. Students will sew uniforms, linens, dresses, and other common textile goods. They will learn a high-demand skill that will serve them for life.

Unique Women Club Cooperative micro-loan

A $1,000 loan to the Unique Women Club cooperative was used to purchase goats for milk, meat, and breeding. This will foster entrepreneurship and self-sufficiency among the Club’s women. The loan will be repaid every four months and recycled into new loans.

Garden of Eatin’

This project developed the garden space into a teaching space, teaching the children small-scale horticulture skills. The vegetables will help feed the children at the school. The skills will be taken home so the children might help feed their own families.

Save a Girl

More than 200 girls have been given, free of charge, TGUP Save a Girl ™ kits. The kits help the girls manage their period so they can attend school every day of the month.

School Supplies

Every student in the school has been provided with essential school supplies including notebooks, pencils, erasers, and other items. These dramatically improve their capacity to learn.

Thank you to those who made this possible!  The world is a better place because of you.
