Nambere Primary school is a public primary school in Busia County, Kenya, near the Ugandan border. The school serves 563 students (289 boys and 274 girls) and has 15 teachers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The  sanitation situation was dire due to the lack of adequate toilet facilities. This posed health risks, particularly for girls. It negatively affected their school attendance, hygiene, and learning outcomes. Equally bad, the ratio of pupils to toilets is 143:1, FAR exceeding the recommended standard of 25:1 for girls and 30:1 for boys. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This project built 8 new toilet stalls, 4 for girls, 4 for boys, plus a urinal. It rehabilitated an existing borehole to provide water, not just for sanitation, but for the entire school. Finally, three classrooms had their floors updated from dirt to concrete screed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
