Mwicwiri Primary Day School in Naro Moru, Kenya is anessential part of its community. The school has 428 students, 20 teachers, and three support staff. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Community families are largely subsistence farmers and day laborers. Average household size is 8 people. Most live beneath the poverty line, in ramshackle houses of wood plank siding, metal sheets for roofs, and little electricity.

<\/strong>This project will build a 36,000+ square foot garden (224\u2019 x 160\u2019). It will be fully fenced and irrigated with a drip irrigation system fed by a 10,000-liter water tank which is connected to city water supply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The garden will supply food for the daily needs of the school\u2019s children. It will grow spinach, cabbages, onions, carrots, potatoes, and French beans. Excess produce not consumed in the school will be resold in local markets to help reduce operating costs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
