$35 will provide a Maasai family with one 4-foot-tall mesh fabric cylinders and training in its use and care.

Maasai tribes people in Tanzania have historically been nomadic, finding their food (mainly meat and milk) as they migrated around east Africa with their livestock. But now they are settling down. The problem is that they have no cultural knowledge about farming.

Each tower is filled with soil and punched with holes a few inches apart into which seedlings are planted to produce a dense vertical garden. 120 vegetables and herbs can be grown — all in a diameter of just 3 feet.
