The school at La Pitilla only had one small classroom, an aluminum shed. The shed only had room for a few students, but there are many more in the community who will attend with a new, larger classroom. The new 18’ x 30’ classroom will be made of steel and concrete.
Thank you to the students and staff at Gahr HS, Harbor HS, Katella HS, Santa Cruz HS, Soquel HS, and Santa Cruz Rotary and Santa Cruz Sunrise Rotary for funding the new classroom. The world is a better place because of you.
All the building supplies have to be brought in on horseback as there is not any road access to the village. Here you can see supplies being delivered, the foundation being dug and laid, and the framework started.
The building is made of tubular steel frame. That makes it cheaper and easier to assemble than traditional brick. It goes up much faster. It’s also lighter weight, since everything has to be carried in. See it, below, with the roof on and the walls going up. It’s starting to look like a real classroom!
The local craftsmen and parent volunteers have worked together to finish the classroom.
