This project will build 4 latrines for the 107 students and 10 teachers at the Kiandai Mixed Day Secondary School in Kirinyaga in the Baraghwi location, Gichugu constituency, of Kirinyaga county. It has 10 teaching staff and 107 students: 53 boys and 54 girls.
The number of students is expected to increase by 50% over the next few years. The latrines are leaking and labeled a hazard by the county health authorities. The school is also in need of other facilities including additional classrooms, a water catchment system, lab equipment, electricity, and a playground.
This project will provide two private latrines for boys and two for girls, along with a sink for hand washing. This is especially important for girls when they have their period. Otherwise, they miss school.
