Kiahuko Mixed Day Primary School is a public elementary school in Gataragwa, West Nyeri, Kenya. It was one of the most dire situations we had ever encountered. The school’s 494 students were bright and eager, as most children are. Its staff was intelligent and committed, as many staff are. But the school’s facilities were decrepit.
TGUP completed a wide spectrum of upgrades. We: installed electricity to every classroom; brought in potable water and built storage tanks; installed new latrines for both boys and girls; built a new kitchen to replace a grossly insufficient one; and built an 8-structure playground.
We were helped in this project by the student members of the Global Health Initiative at UCLA.

Thank you to all of those donors and workers who made this remarkable transformation possible.
