The Kiahuko School in Nyeri, Kenya was an enigma. It had 487 children in some of the most desolate buildings we’ve ever seen. Yet, the children were as bright and vivacious as children everywhere. But were no play structures of any kind. So, we built them a playground. Be sure to watch the short video at the very end.
This project was unique in these ways:
- There were no play structures of any kind for 487 children.
- The new playground includes two sets of swings, two sets of slides, two monkey bars, and two teeter totters.
- All of the elements were designed and built at TGUP’s off-site staging yard, and re-assembled on site.
- The project was part of a much larger renovation that TGUP completed at the school.

These are the students, assembled with the principal in the main yard.

TGUP has brought in water and electricity, built latrines and a new kitchen, and provided meal supplements to the children. Before this project, there were no recreational facilities of any kind.
